Profile

Nigel Brown

I'm 23 years old and live in Perth, Western Australia. I am currently studying full time at Curtin University and am in my final year. I've been flying for six years in total. The first four years were part time due to motocross and coaching commitments. Since retiring from motocross, (due to injury) I've been able to fly full time for the past two years.

How did I get started? Well, good fortune had it that the remote flying club was next door to the motor cross track. With an acquired passion already for anything that had a motor and could fly - I was in. Between motocross races my father and I would ride the four wheelers over to the club and watch the flying. It was the heli's that got us hooked. I meet some great guys there and continued to visit the club learning all I could. The rest is history really.

Motocross has played a large part of my life from very young. I competed for 7 years in total and was a sponsored rider for Yamaha from 1996 to 1998 and then KTM from 1999 to 2000. I've learnt some very valuable lessons along the way, which I've been able to transfer directly into flying model helicopters.

I became heavily involved in coaching while I was racing as I have a passion for passing the knowledge I had learnt on to others. I completed my level 1 and 2 coaching accreditation through the University of Western Australia (UWA) and Motorcycling Australia.

Flying

I started skydiving in January of 2004 as I needed to find something that gave me the same adrenaline rush as racing bikes. The great thing about jumping at Hillman farm is the property is completely flat and has a great runway so I get heaps of time in between jumping out of planes to go flying.

At the same time I started jumping out of planes, I started up Drift & Drag Performance. I had been playing around with my GTR skyline and 180SX for 2 years prior to this. We specialise in high performance imports; mainly 180SX's, Silvias and Skylines.
